Toby Alderweireld waiting on Daniel Levy decision amid Club Brugge transfer interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender
♐According to , Toby Alderweireld is waiting to see who Daniel Levy appoints to succeed Jose Mourinho before deciding on his future at Tottenham Hotspur amid interest from Club Brugge.
💞The Jupiler Pro League title hopefuls are determined to strengthen their backline in the summer transfer market, after President Bart Verhaeghe and CEO Vincent Mannaert acknowledged the decline of Philippe Clement’s reigning champions.
💃Club Brugge’s focus is said to be on targeting Belgian options and dream of tempting Alderweireld to the Jan Breydel Stadium alongside former Spurs forward Nacer Chadli, with the İstanbul Basaksehir attacker available for a move after a difficult season in Turkey.

𝕴Alderweireld’s situation is currently unclear with the centre-half first wanting to discover who will be replacing Mourinho at the north London helm before deciding on his own future, but also wishing to one day return to Belgium and play closer to home.
🦩The 32-year-old has not played in his native country since 2004 when a part of Beerschot AC’s youth ranks, before joining Ajax’s academy and later enjoying spells with Atletico Madrid and Southampton before moving to Tottenham for £11.4m () in 2015.
ꦆAlderweireld is under contract in north London through to 2023 on an £80,000-per-week () deal agreed in December 2019 (), to end speculation over his future with his previous terms expiring the following summer.
TBR’s view:
ꦍWith Alderweireld tied down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a further two years, he risks missing out on a dream return to Belgium without forcing a move away from north London which Mourinho’s departure could now trigger with Club Brugge showing interest.
🉐Levy decided to fire the Portuguese tactician earlier in the year over fears that as many as 10 first-team players, including Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Gareth Bale, could demand transfers (), but in doing so upset Alderweireld who held Mourinho in high regard.
𓆏“You’re in it together and you try to do the best you can together,” the defender told . “Unfortunately, we didn’t get the result we both wanted as a manager and as a team, but I have massive respect [for him]. It hurts when you have to see your manager go.”
🐽Levy must now make the right appointment to convince Alderweireld to stay at Spurs, if indeed he does want him there next season, or risk seeing that one reason lead to the international handing in a transfer request and looking to leave in the summer.
