Toby Alderweireld says Spurs have an ‘unbelievable’ player at their disposal ahead of League Cup final
Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has waxed lyrical about Spurs teammate Harry Kane, expressing his hopes that the striker will be fit for Sunday’s League Cup final.
Kane’s heroics over the years need no introduction, and this season he’s continued to shine for Tottenham despite the team falling short of expectations far too many times.
The Spurs talisman is currently nursing an ankle injury he picked up in last Friday’s 2-2 draw with Everton and caused him to miss Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Southampton.
Kane missed training again on Friday, and Tottenham interim boss Ryan Mason admits he and his coaches are “not sure yet” if he’ll will be available to face Manchester City at Wembley.
Alderweireld told on Friday that Kane would be a huge miss, but at the same time Spurs would be able to cope against Pep Guardiola’s side in case he’s unable to play.
“Everyone hopes he is going to be fit. He wants to be fit. We have to see day by day,” Alderweireld said.
“He is an unbelievable player, I can’t credit him enough, but we have managed in difficult periods without him as well to win games.
“If he is not there Sunday, we have to find a way. Of course we want him to be there, but if not we have to find a way.”
Spurs will be hoping to lift their first major trophy since 2008, when the north Londoners won the League Cup against Chelsea.
