Toby Alderweireld has posted on Instagram ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Arsenal

Toby Alderweireld has posted a huge update on his Instagram page ahead of Sunday’s north London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal – confirming that he has returned to training.

Alderweireld, 31, suffered an injury during the 2-0 win over Manchester City and it saw the big Belgian miss out against Ludogorets in the Europa League, and then Chelsea on the weekend.

Summer signing Joe Rodon came in and impressed, helping Spurs return to the top of the Premier League table by keeping a clean sheet. After the injury, Alderweireld was ruled out for four weeks by Jose Mourinho.

However, just a week after those comments, it seems the ex-Southampton and Atletico Madrid star could be ahead of schedule. He posted a picture alongside Gareth Bale on Instagram, captioned “back on the grass”.

TBR’s view – Alderweireld return is crucial to title challenge

Mourinho, ahead of Thursday’s clash against LASK, has stated that Alderweireld will definitely miss the Europa League outing. However, the Portuguese gaffer was unwavering when it came to potentially facing Arsenal.

Potentially fit to face Arsenal is a huge boost for Spurs. Having the experienced Belgian at the back alongside Eric Dier has seen Spurs form the best defence in the league so far – conceding just nine goals in 10 games.

If Spurs are to mount a title challenge, keeping £150,000-a-week () star Alderweireld fit is key – and his availability against Arsenal will come as a huge boost.
