Toby Alderweireld claim he expects to play for Tottenham next season

Toby Alderweireld has claimed he believes he will still be at Tottenham next season.

Spurs are resigned to losing their 30-year-old defender this summer, with Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona all keen on him ().

He is about to enter the final year of his contact with the North London club and will have a £25million release clause that becomes active the summer ().

The Belgium international is currently preparing for the Champions League final and fans are waiting to find out where his future lies.

Alderweireld has offered some hope to supporters by stating he expects to stay where he is next season.

“I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve been saying for the past couple of years, the only focus is Spurs. I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season,”

TBR’s View:

Alderweireld is still one of the outstanding defenders in the Premier League and losing him would definitely make them a weaker side.

The ball-playing centre-back has been such a consistent performer since he arrived in 2015 and would be an exceptional £25million signing for any team in Europe.

Davinson Sanchez could have a colossal role to play moving forward in trying to step into Alderweireld’s shoes if he exits.

Sanchez, 22, has shown some real potential during his time under Mauricio Pochettino, but it would be some task to try fill the void the Belgian would leave.
