‘To be completed soon’: Fabrizio Romano has fresh transfer update for Tottenham fans

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are about to strike a deal for Joe Rodon to join Rennes on loan.

The Wales international has struggled for game time at Spurs since joining from Swansea in October 2020.

To date, Rodon – who cost Tottenham an initial £11million – has just 24 Spurs first-team appearances to his name.

The 24-year-old has been linked with a departure from N17 throughout the summer.

And now, according to Romano, Rodon is closing in on a move away from Tottenham.

The transfer insider took to Twitter to claim that Rodon’s loan switch to the Ligue 1 side is “expected to be completed soon”.

Romano, who also credited The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath for first calling the story, also said Rennes have an option to buy worth €20m (£15m).

Though Rodon is surplus to requirements at Spurs, he’s a top talent who’ll no doubt bolster the Rennes ranks.

The towering defender has 28 Wales caps and helped his nation reach the World Cup.

Rodon played the full 90 minutes as the Dragons beat Ukraine 1-0 in their playoff final earlier this summer.

Barring injury or illness, the 6ft 4in ace is a shoo-in to make the Wales squad for Qatar 2022.

“He’s perfect, works very hard, young guy, wants to learn, very enthusiastic,” Jose Mourinho of Rodon in March 2021.
