Title-winners are now asking Tottenham to sell their ‘outstanding’ player to them this month

Italian champions Napoli are trying to convince Tottenham Hotspur to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this month.

The Dane hasn’t been the first-choice at Spurs since Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival in the summer. It does seem like he is surplus to requirements, which is probably why Napoli are pushing to sign him in the coming weeks.

Napoli are trying to convince Tottenham to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Tottenham signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton back in 2020, when Jose Mourinho was still at the club.

The ‘‘ midfielder was one of the first names on the team sheet back then. He played almost every single game, and the same continued when Antonio Conte got the Spurs job as well.

However, Ange Postecoglou just doesn’t fancy him. He has preferred Pape Matar Sarr over Hojbjerg this season, and the Dane’s future is up in the air as a result.

Napoli’s interest in Hojbjerg was reported two weeks ago, and have now shared the latest on the situation.

The outlet writes that Napoli’s idea is actually to sign a player on loan this month, but in the very next line, they say the Italian champions are ‘trying to convince Tottenham to sell’ the Dane in the coming days.

Hojbjerg’s current contract at Tottenham expires in the summer of 2025.

Letting Hojbjerg go would be a risk

Hojbjerg is by no means a crucial player for Tottenham, but he may still have an important role to play in the coming weeks and months.

Spurs will be without Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for about a month as they’ve joined up with their respective countries to take part in the African Cup of Nations.

Rodrigo Bentancur has only just returned from his injury as well, and it wouldn’t really be wise to make him play every minute of every game in the next few weeks.

Getting rid of Hojbjerg would be a big risk for Tottenham, especially if they lose more players in the middle of the park due to injuries or suspensions.

We think keeping hold of the Dane until the summer makes the most sense, unless Spurs go out and sign a new midfielder to replace him.
