‘Tireless’, ‘perhaps a sign of things to come’: Alan Shearer comments on West Ham duo
Premier League legend Alan Shearer has named two West Ham United players in his Team of the Week as the Hammers ran out 3-1 winners at the weekend (Premier League ).
David Moyes’ charges saw off Southampton with a convincing performance at the London Stadium on Saturday.
West Ham January signing Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring in the 15th minute for the hosts, though Michael Obafemi brought the Saints level just after the half-hour mark.
However, Sebastien Haller restored West Ham’s advantage shortly before the break and Michail Antonio netted the final goal of the game in the 54th minute.

Bowen was one of the Hammers contingent who made it into Shearer’s TOTW, the England icon writing on the Premier League : “Marked his first Premier League start for the club with a goal that was thoroughly deserved.
“His tireless pressing and tenacity up front made for a tough time for Southampton.”
Haller also made the cut, Shearer saying: “Haller scored a hugely important goal and produced a much-improved all-round performance compared with recent showings. Perhaps a sign of things to come.”

It’s been a tough season for West Ham but the victory over Southampton was a massive boost as things finally clicked for their first Premier League win in nine matches.
Bowen put in a great display as he opened his Hammers account just 15 minutes into his first start with a moment of quality which the side has been missing for much of the season.
As for Haller, his impressive showing was a result of finally getting the support he needs on the pitch, his partnership with Antonio unlocking his potential as opposed to playing as a lone striker.
