Timo Werner says 33-year-old who Tottenham once sold is his toughest-ever opponent

Timo Werner has made a very impressive start to life at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou – and he’s responded when asked for his toughest-ever opponent, and it is a player Spurs fans know well.

Werner, 28, joined Spurs on loan in January with the option to make the deal permanent from Leipzig for a fee of £15m. It is claimed that he wants the loan deal to be made permanent, in the summer window.

Playing eight times so far, the Germany star has had a hand in four goals – scoring two and creating two. Those two goals came in his last two outings, during wins over both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Spurs are closing in on his signing as he thrives under the attacking system deployed by manager Ange Postecoglou. He is certainly pushing for a place in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad, ahead of the summer.

, Werner was asked for his toughest opponent and he responded by naming a player Spurs sold: “Kyle Walker, because he’s that fast and that strong”.

Walker is probably the toughest opponent of most left-sided attackers. His pace is unrivalled, twinning that with his experience and strength, the England star is still one of the league’s best right-backs.

Walker of course, played 227 times for Tottenham earlier on his career – spending eight years in North London after joining the club as a youngster from boyhood club Sheffield United in the summer of 2009.

The Man City star will be tasked with stopping Arsenal on the weekend in a crucial clash in the race for the title, while Werner will be looking to increase his tally as Spurs take on Fulham in a London derby.
