Timo Weah and Celtic players react as Mikey Johnston posts on Instagram after return
Mikey Johnston has posted on Instagram after finally returning from injury to make a substitute appearance during Celtic’s 2-0 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon – prompting reaction from Timo Weah and other Celtic teammates.
Johnston, 21, has been sidelined since January. A long-term knee injury saw him finally undergo an operation to correct the issue in August – but has since suffered calf injuries during rehabilitation. Now, Johnston is finally fit.
The Scotland Under-21 international returned to the first team as a late substitute during the 2-0 win over Kilmarnock – and at just the right time. Celtic are undergoing an overhaul in the starting line-up, as Neil Lennon looks to turn the form around.
Conor Hazard, Ismaila Soro and David Turnbull have come into the side – and Johnston will be eyeing the chance to show he can break into Lennon’s team. He posted a five-word verdict on Instagram after finally coming back from injury.
If Lennon chooses to play the same system as he did against Kilmarnock, Johnston is best-suited to the two positions behind the striker. David Turnbull and Mo Elyounoussi started, but Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic will act as competition.
Plenty of rivalry for those two slots then, but Johnston will just be delighted to be back in and around the first team. Timo Weah responded with a one-word message, while Tony Watt, Karamoko Dembele, Turnbull and Nir Bitton also replied to his post.
