‘Time to get signing’: Some West Ham fans think opportunity’s perfect to sign ‘brilliant’ 22-year-old

A number of West Ham United fans have expressed their desire to see Matty Cash join the London Stadium outfit this summer after his season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday.

The highly-rated Nottingham Forest right-back has been linked with the Hammers for much of the year.

reported in January that West Ham submitted a £10million offer, one that could rise to £12million, for the 22-year-old in the winter transfer window.

, however, Nottingham Forest were demanding £18million for Cash, and nothing came of the reported interest.

In April, claimed that West Ham could go back in for the versatile player – who can also play in midfield – this summer.

Forest remained in the promotion picture for much of the year but their hopes of a return to the Premier League were dashed in their final 90 minutes of their Championship season.

A 4-1 defeat to Stoke City at the City Ground, combined with a 4-1 win for Swansea City at Reading, meant Sabri Lamouchi’s charges slipped out of the top six on goal difference.

Meanwhile, West Ham made mathematically sure of their place in the top flight with a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

Given both sides now know which league they’ll be playing in next season, some West Ham fans hope Cash can be tempted with the promise of Premier League football:

“Brilliant going forward”

Quest TV pundit Sam Parkin was especially impressed by Cash following his late equaliser against West Brom on 15 February.

“It’s a pleasure to be talking about him because he’s having an outstanding season,” he told , as transcribed by the .

“For a player who is a winger really by trade, playing at full-back, he’s brilliant going forward you can see he likes a tackle as well.

“It’s an outstanding touch and the finish is sublime (for the goal).”
