Andy Carroll has yet to make an appearance this season, but he is closing in on a return to action. It could be the perfect time for Newcastle United to make a sensational move to bring him home in January.
The speculation about a return to St James’ Park has never gone away and the two parties are in a position where a reunion could be mutually beneficial.
Newcastle United have failed to score in five of their ten Premier League matches this season. That is a troubling statistic, especially considering they blanked in games against rivals such as Brighton, Southampton and Cardiff City.
Meanwhile, Carroll’s time at West Ham has been ruined by injuries and a fresh start in his native North East could be just what he needs to revive his career. At the age of 29, he will know that his time is running out at the highest level.
Rafa Benitez plays a style that needs a target man to lead the line and there are few better than Carroll when he is fully fit. He would be a great fit in the current Newcastle team. Furthermore, the current coaching staff have managed to keep injuries to a minimum and would help the striker in that regard.
It would be a huge risk for Newcastle, but they may struggle to attract big-name players in January if they remain in the bottom three. Carroll could be the perfect solution.
