Tim Vickery gives his verdict on Giovani Lo Celso’s performance after he starts for Argentina vs Brazil

Giovani Lo Celso certainly did his Tottenham Hotspur chances no harm with a stellar performance for Argentina last night.

Lo Celso started in the famous 1-0 win away against Brazil and ended up providing the assist for Nicolas Otamendi’s goal.

South American expert Tim Vickery shared his thoughts on the Tottenham midfielder’s performance when speaking to this morning.

The journalist gave Lo Celso a brief mention, a player he was impressed with on the night.

: “Argentina didn’t do very much but a corner, Lo Celso takes it, had a good game Lo Celso from Tottenham and Otamendi, who keeps doing this for them from set pieces, a towering header and he gives them the win.”

Of course, the Argentinian can’t have done his starting chances under Ange Postecoglou any harm with his performance.

Amid all of the unavailability at Spurs this weekend, Lo Celso may be part of an entirely new Tottenham midfield against Aston Villa.

James Maddison is injured and Yves Bissouma suspended, leaving two important roles up for grabs.

And therefore Lo Celso’s performance for Argentina could prove very timely for his Tottenham chances.

Although Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was the player to come in against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Postecoglou may now make changes.

There seemed to be a disconnect between Spurs’ attacking lines against Wolves – something Lo Celso may be able to solve.

The Argentinian isn’t a typical replacement for Maddison, the duo have differing styles, but he’s definitely the best option Tottenham have right now.

It does seem too soon for the likes of Jamie Donley to step up from the academy side, especially given the weight of expectation around the side.

Therefore, it does prove just how timely Lo Celso’s strong Argentina performance could be for Tottenham.

It’s perhaps something of a surprise that the attacking midfielder is still being called up to the squad given his lack of minutes at Spurs.

But that does seem to be a situation that is about to change.

And it’s now clear why Tottenham would be willing to reject any approach from FC Barcelona for Lo Celso in January
