Tim Sherwood suggests Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as Newcastle manager
that his pick to take over at Newcastle United would be Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard, 41, has excelled in his role as Rangers manager since taking over at Ibrox in the summer of 2018. He is just 12 games shy of reaching 200.
He stopped Celtic from reaching 10 in a row last season, winning the 2020-21 title without defeat. This season, Rangers are top after nine games.
But Gerrard has been linked down south, the short journey to Newcastle. Steve Bruce has been sacked, and the Toon’s new owners need a new boss.

Gerrard is on the list, though he did state after Thursday night’s win over Brondby that he is more than happy at Rangers – with a contract until 2024.
Asked who he would have at Newcastle, Sherwood states that there is only one man in his eyes equipped for the short term and long term – Gerrard.
“It is an almost impossible job, to do short term and long term. If there was one person I could pluck from that list, it would be Steven Gerrard.
“Someone who knows the Premier League, can lift the fans immediately and get the best out of the players,”

Sherwood on Newcastle, Gerrard: Little chance of a Rangers exit
As stated, Gerrard seems happy at Rangers. The one issue is, though, that to manage his dream of taking over at Liverpool – he needs one job first.
Gerrard has spoken in the past that he would love to return to Anfield as manager. Now in his fourth season at Rangers, he is gaining experience.
A title-winning manager, Gerrard has the right kind of CV to take over. But does he need Premier League experience first? Some would argue, yes.
Surely, if Liverpool want him to manage in the Premier League first, then a job like Newcastle would be absolutely ideal.
