Tim Sherwood says Spurs have a real ‘quality’ player in their ranks who has ‘a lot to offer’

Tottenham Hotspur on-loan forward Gareth Bale has been praised by Tim Sherwood after helping Spurs to a magnificent 4-0 win in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Welshman scored his first hat-trick for Spurs since 2012 as Sheffield United were well and truly put to the sword at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ryan Mason’s charges broke the deadlock on 36 minutes when Bale scored with a deft flick, a 1-0 lead they would take into the break.

The floodgates opened after the interval as the 31-year-old rifled home two fierce left-footed strikes for his hat-trick, before Son Heung-min capped the win with a great curling finish.

Sherwood claims Jose Mourinho made a “big mistake” by not playing Bale more often and thinks that if he had got more minutes, Spurs would be firmly in the top four.

“Big mistake from Jose Mourinho not playing this guy on a regular basis,” the former Tottenham boss told .

“It’s okay playing on the front foot against Southampton and Sheffield United, they weren’t on the front foot last week against Man City, but you can expect that, they’re the best team in the league.

“I was surprised (Bale) didn’t play. He’s a big game player. He has the quality. He has stardust in his feet.

“I think he has a lot to offer this Tottenham side but he never played on a regular basis and if he had who knows where they could be now.

“I would suggest they would be higher up the league and probably cemented in the Champions League spot if he had played regularly alongside Harry Kane and Son.”

That’s four goals in two Premier League games for Bale now, who has repaid Mason for giving him starts.

Obviously the timing of Mourinho’s sacking was controversial but you can’t argue that Mason has already rectified one thing in giving Bale more minutes.
