Tim Sherwood says £40m Tottenham player is playing way too safe right now
Tottenham lost in the north London derby at the weekend, and it’s fair to say that Spurs’ performance was below-par.
For one reason or another, Spurs just didn’t turn up, and they look a shell of the team that was taking the Premier League by storm this time last year.
12 months ago, Tottenham were perhaps the most exciting attacking team in England, but against Arsenal at the weekend, they barely created anything.
Speaking on , Tim Sherwood has been discussing Spurs’ current slump, and he’s pointed the finger at James Maddison.
Indeed, the pundit says that Maddison needs some help in the midfield to create chances, claiming that the England international has started to play way too safely.

James Maddison plays too safely
Sherwood spoke about the man and how he’s been playing recently.
“You don’t see boring games with Tottenham anymore, but they need to start winning. You need that clinical edge. I like James Maddison, but he needs some help in there, he’s the only one who has a bit of guile, I’d like to see him pick up the ball behind the midfield in the tight areas. He gets a lot of the ball, but he always takes it safe, he goes in front of people and looks for a pass,” Sherwood said.
James Maddison isn’t himself at the moment
James Maddison really doesn’t look himself at the moment.
The midfielder was arguably the best player in the Premier League before his injury last season, but since then, he’s been a shadow of his former self.
The England international is incredible when he’s at his best, but it’s been a long time since we’ve seen him play to his full potential for Tottenham.
Maddison needs to turn his fortunes around, because, at the moment, he’s not doing much to contribute to this Tottenham team.
