Tim Sherwood reckons Liverpool should make a late move for Watford stopper Ben Foster
Tim Sherwood has told Optus Sport’s The Kelly And Wrighty Show – – that he believes Liverpool should consider a late move for Watford veteran Ben Foster before the end of Friday’s domestic window.
Although the international window closed earlier this month, Premier League clubs can still do business with second-tier sides. Indeed, it means the top-tier can still bring players from the Championship, into the Premier League.
Liverpool have been linked with signing a goalkeeper after conceding seven goals to Aston Villa with back-up stopper Adrian in net. Foster, 37, signed a new two-year deal at Watford earlier this summer – keeping him at the club until the summer of 2022.
But Sherwood believes that if Liverpool are to sign a goalkeeper before 5pm from the Championship, then eight-time England international Foster would be their best bet – given his ‘wealth of experience’.

“If they were going to go the Championship, I would think they’d go and get the best goalkeeper in the Championship,” , when asked if Liverpool should sign a goalkeeper on Friday.
“They’re in that market now. I’d go and get a Ben Foster. Someone who’s got that wealth of experience who you know who will go in there where your back four you will think, ‘yeah, we’ve got him behind us, we know’.”
TBR’s view – Would Foster really go to Liverpool?
The two-time Premier League winner came through the ranks at Manchester United and played 23 times for Liverpool’s bitter rivals. He has also signed a new contract at Watford, where he remains number one.
Would he really swap all of that to go to Liverpool? He would not start for Jurgen Klopp’s side with Alisson first choice, though it remains to be seen if he would even get above Adrian into the side as second-choice goalkeeper. A strange one.
