Tim Sherwood ‘really surprised’ by what he’s just heard about Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly one of the Premier League’s most talented footballers.
Alexander-Arnold is a world-class player, and he’s made a name for himself due to his incredible ball-striking ability.
The right-back is perhaps the best ball striker in the Premier League right now, and Alexander-Arnold has even been compared to David Beckham in the past.
The full-back showed his ability at the weekend against Leicester City, scoring the winning goal for Liverpool, but, speaking on , Tim Sherwood was very surprised by one stat after this game.

Tim Sherwood shocked by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal tally
Sherwood was informed after Alexander-Arnold’s winner that this was just his 18th goal in the Premier League.
The pundit was stunned that Alexander-Arnold had only scored 18 Premier League goals, claiming that he’d have expected a better return from a player with his outstanding abilities.
“I’m really surprised that he’s only scored 18 Premier League goals, Trent, with the technique and ability he has. Especially from dead balls as well, but for me he’s earned the right to do what he wants with his career, he wants to try something different, I think the gripe is that he’ll leave for nothing, but that’s not his problem,” Sherwood said.
Trent Alexander-Arnold compared to other top scoring full-backs
Sherwood was shocked that Alexander-Arnold has only scored 18 Premier League goals, and, to be honest, that is surprising.
Of course, as a defender, scoring goals isn’t Alexander-Arnold’s job, but, at the same time, we have seen other creative full-backs in the past who were more prolific.
Trent Alexander-Arnold | Leighton Baines | Ian Harte | Marcos Alonso | Patrick van Aanholt | |
Games | 255 | 420 | 237 | 179 | 213 |
Goals | 18 | 32 | 28 | 26 | 22 |
Goals per game | 0.07 | 0.08 | 0.12 | 0.15 | 0.1 |
Leighton Baines and Ian Harte both took penalties, so it’s perhaps a bit unfair to compare those players to Alexander-Arnold, but Marcos Alonso and Patrick van Aanholt both have better goalscoring records than Alexander-Arnold, and that just doesn’t feel right.
Alexander-Arnold may need to add more goals to his game if he wants to fulfil that dream of winning the Ballon d’Or that he mentioned earlier this season.
Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid this summer, and if he heads to Spain, he may want to try to add more goals to his game.
