Tim Sherwood names two Tottenham players that may get the ‘hump’ under Jose Mourinho
Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tottenham’s Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura are a couple of players that may be frustrated right now with their roles on the pitch.
Ex-Spurs manager Sherwood has pinpointed the two attackers as players that may be wound up with the amount of defensive responsibility placed upon them.
Bergwijn is a quick wide player that has played 25 games across all competitions this season, but is yet to score in any of those matches.
The 23-year-old tracks back defensively whenever he plays as a right-winger, likewise 28-year-old teammate Moura has a similar task when he plays in a wide role.
“The attack-minded players, if you don’t play them how they want to be played and you’re not getting the points, they’re going to have the hump in the end,” Sherwood told
“Bergwijn is almost having to play right-back when he plays, Lucas Moura has been asked to do a lot of defensive stuff.
“To be fair, Jose doesn’t care about individuals, and why should he? He cares about the collective. He cares about the team.”
TBR’s View:
If you want to be a success in a traditional Mourinho team, then you will have to work hard defensively in any area of the pitch.
The right-winger position is one that the manager hasn’t managed to make his mind up on all season, as he likes for the right combination to fight the frontline alongside Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
Both Bergwijn and Moura are capable of the spectacular on their day, something which hasn’t come around often enough in a Spurs shirt.
Neither can be criticised for their work-rate or desire in meeting the team’s demands defensively, but it’s perhaps impact their quality going forward.
