Tim Sherwood makes bizarre claim about Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa, after 21-22 form

that Marcelo Bielsa will be feeling he wish he had left Leeds United in the summer. The pundit believes he has taken Leeds as far as managerially possible.

Bielsa, 66, remains in the hotseat at Elland Road, in what is his fourth season at the club. The Argentine has clocked up an enormous 158 matches as manager – re-establishing Leeds as a Premier League club.

In the summer, Bielsa chose to hang around for at least another season. But Leeds have since struggled, with injuries hampering any chance of progress from last season’s ninth-placed finish.

On Sunday, Leeds welcomed back Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford – but have since lost Bamford, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips to hamstring injuries. It is seriously hampering Leeds, as we enter the Christmas period.

Asked about Bielsa, Sherwood made a bizarre claim. He thinks the Argentine will be wishing he had not signed a new Leeds deal in the summer – suggesting the player’s are growing tired of the “same voice”.

“He’s over demanding. To work with this man twice a day, every single day, it’s the longest he has ever been at any football club. They need a new voice. He’s great, I’m a big fan of Bielsa,” Sherwood said.

“He wishes he left in hindsight before the start of the season, and found a new challenge. He might have squeezed everything he can out of this group of players. A million-to-one shot him being there next season.”

Sherwood on Bielsa: Wrong about summer, but right about next season

Sherwood claiming that Bielsa will be wishing he left in the summer is ridiculous. The Argentine is renowned as a fighter, and he will have regretted leaving after watching Leeds finish in ninth place.

Have things gone stale? Or do Leeds simply lack depth, and are struggling with injuries? It is certainly the latter – ask any Leeds player, Bielsa is a legend and they are thankful for improving their careers.

But Sherwood does have a point about next season. This could well be Bielsa’s last season in the Leeds dugout. Replacing him, if he does leave, is a mammoth task and one Victor Orta must get right.
