Tim Sherwood left embarrassed with his Tottenham prediction before collapse at Brighton

Ange Postecoglou watched his Tottenham side produce their worst-ever display since he took charge after their 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

It was proving to be a productive, entertaining and perfect week for Spurs at one point because they were leading Brighton 2-0 at half-time.

Only last week, Tottenham outclassed Manchester United at Old Trafford and then went on to pick another three points in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Given that Brighton had a rest in midweek, for Spurs to deservedly be leading at half-time would have been music to the ears of the supporters because they were flying and heading towards six wins in a row in all competitions.

But then Tottenham did what they always do and they collapsed inside 20 minutes of the second half when ex-Arsenal man Danny Welbeck was putting his side 3-2 up.

Tim Sherwood admitted he ‘couldn’t believe’ what he was watching, especially given what he had predicted at the half-time break.

The former Spurs boss isn’t shy about airing his positive or negative views, and he was as confident as ever before the collapse.

So much so, he had his fellow studio guests laughing because he stated ‘the next goal is important for Brighton and it will only be 4-1 or 5-1’.

Sherwood confidently added that Tottenham are winning ‘no matter what’ and it doesn’t even matter how Fabian Hürzeler’s side plays, as he told (06/10/24 at 5:30 pm).

It is fair to say that the former title-winner with Blackburn Rovers was left embarrassed post-match because it was Brighton taking home all the points.

Tim Sherwood gets Tottenham and Brighton prediction horribly wrong

“They will close it out from here, that’s for sure,” insisted Sherwood at half-time. “The problem Brighton will have is that they won’t be able to keep Tottenham out.

“As much as the next goal is important for Brighton, it will only be 4-1 or 5-1 then. On the evidence of what I have seen of them over the season, they haven’t done bad, but they know what they are. You can change personnel, but you need to change the system to accommodate. You haven’t got as good as players as Tottenham and Tottenham are winning this game all ends up, no matter how they want to play. Tottenham will beat them.”

Post-match, Sherwood added: “I gave them the kiss of death, unfortunately. I can’t believe that Jekyll and Hyde performance there. It was unbelievable. They must have heard what I said at half-time and decided to turn up in the second half.”

Tottenham’s defensive woes under Ange Postecoglou

This is the tenth time Tottenham have lost a game after having a two-goal lead and no team in Premier League history has lost more.

And let’s be honest, it isn’t a surprise because it’s the most Tottenham thing ever, with their defensive woes showing under this current manager.

Tottenham are great to watch and play against, which is one of their biggest problems and it probably will prove to be their downfall.

The aim is simple, get back into the Champions League, but do Spurs have the defence to do so? The answer is probably no.
