Tim Sherwood criticises Sergio Reguilon, despite scoring winner as Tottenham beat Leeds on Sunday

that Sergio Reguilon showed “no urgency” in trying to stop Leeds scoring against Tottenham.

Dan James opened the scoring on Sunday, his first goal for Leeds since swapping Manchester United for Elland Road in the summer.

Jack Harrison’s little nutmeg on Emerson Royal was followed by an inch-perfect cross to James. The Welsh winger got in front of Reguilon.

Luckily for Tottenham, Antonio Conte got his side going. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalised, before Reguilon scored the winner – tapping home.

A much-needed win for Spurs, which sees them climb to seventh – Reguilon the toast of supporters. But Sherwood has criticised the Spaniard.

He has questioned the £48,000-a-week () star’s decision making, and his lack of defensive urgency to stop James from opening the scoring.

“The wing-backs, brilliant going forward. I’m not sure about Royal. Reguilon, fantastic going that way,”

“But if you look at the Leeds goal, it is poor decision-making. He doesn’t want to get back in, no urgency, they tap in. Antonio will see that.”

Sherwood on Reguilon: Tottenham star will improve under Conte

Reguilon is excellent in attack. Since joining Spurs, he has been seen as an outlet on the left flank – excellent going forward, with pinpoint delivery.

Even in Tottenham’s first goal, it is his cross that causes havoc in the Leeds area, with Lucas Moura laying the ball off to Hojbjerg to bundle home.

But Sherwood is right. Reguilon needs to sharpen up defensively – while it was Emerson that let Leeds get in, it was Reguilon that was out of position.

That will change, under Conte. There will be no passengers under the Italian gaffer, the ex-Chelsea boss will make sure it does not happen again.
