Three Tottenham players who could benefit from Jose Mourinho exit
Tottenham Hotspur have this morning announced the sacking of manager Jose Mourinho. The club has placed Ryan Mason and Chris Powell in charge of first-team affairs until further notice.
Spurs will face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday and the timing of the departure is interesting to say the very least.
Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s manager in November 2019 and finished sixth with Spurs during 2019/20.
Now, the club will start identifying potential replacements, with a decision likely to be made on his successor during the summer.
Following today’s announcement, we looked at three players who could benefit from Mourinho’s exit.
Dele Alli
Absolutely top of the list when it comes to players who will have probably raised a smile at Mourinho losing his job.
Alli’s demise down the pecking order at Tottenham has been nothing short of remarkable and hasn’t made a great deal of sense.

The 25-year-old is extremely talented but has been restricted to just 232 minutes of Premier League football during 2020/21.
Paid , Alli has scored 65 goals and claimed 59 assists in 245 games for Spurs.
At a time when they’ve lacked creativity, his absence from the team has seemed stubborn to the extreme by Mourinho.
Could Mason hand him a chance to establish himself at the club?
Harry Winks
Another player who has slipped out of the picture is the midfield maestro and he will hope to earn a recall.
Winks hasn’t enjoyed a decent time of things under Mourinho he’s been linked with a departure in the past.
Now, however, Mason could decide to thrust the midfielder into the spotlight once again and hand him a chance to prove himself.
Winks has made 24 appearances in all competitions and will hope to earn a Tottenham reprieve in the aftermath of Mourinho’s sacking.
Toby Alderweireld
Mourinho criticised the Belgian defender earlier this season and that strategy can’t have done much for his confidence.
Alderweireld has 107 caps for his country and on his day is considered as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.

Recently he has found himself in and out of the team with Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier also competing for places in the team.
The 32-year-old will perhaps welcome a different voice in the dressing room and could be restored to the team on a more frequent basis.
