Three talents Tottenham should be wary of in their Champions League group

Tottenham’s Champions League group stage opponents were revealed on Thursday night, and the North London side were drawn in Group B alongside; Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSV Eindhoven.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side reached the competition’s round of 16 last season, narrowly missing out on a place in the quarter-finals in a 4-3 aggregate loss to Italian champions Juventus.

Here at The Boot Room, we have chosen a top talent from each of Spurs’ Group B opponents who they should be wary of.

Lionel Messi – Barcelona

This one goes without saying, but the Spurs defence will have to be on high alert when playing against the Spanish champions to prevent Messi from doing what he does best.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men will take hope from the fact they nullified Cristiano Ronaldo’s efforts in the group stage of the competition last season. However, an in-form Messi is a problem that’s hard to solve.

 Mauro Icardi – Internazionale

The 25-year-old forward will be captaining his young Inter Milan side in the Champions League this season and will be the biggest threat from the Italian outfit to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Argentines finishing is second to none and Spurs will have to be particularly careful of the Inter forward off of indirect set-pieces.

Steven Bergwijn – PSV Eindhoven

20-year-old Dutch forward Steven Bergwijn already has a goal to his name in this seasons Champions League, helping his side beat BATE Borisov in the playoff rounds of the competition.

PSV on paper should be Tottenham’s easiest group game. However, Bergwijn is a top talent who is being tipped for superstardom, don’t be surprised if he tries to cause some upsets in Group B.
