Three things we learnt from Tottenham’s 1-0 Europa League defeat to Gent

Alli’s impetuous streak is evident once again

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp this week claimed that Alli is worth more than Paul Pogba, who joined Manchester United last summer for a world-record fee of £89 million. Redknapp is quoted in the as saying: “If Pogba’s £90m, he’s more. He’s 20 years of age! The kid’s got everything – he scores goals, makes goals, can head it, run, dribble, got an edge to him, puts his foot in. I think he’s fantastic.” There’s no doubt that Alli, who signed from MK Dons two years ago for a bargain £5 million, is a huge talent. But he still has much to learn about his temperament. Last season he was suspended for the final three matches of the campaign after being found guilty of violent conduct for punching West Bromwich Albion’s Claudio Yacob in the midriff. With Spurs still in title contention at that point, it was a hammer blow. Alli again displayed an impetuous streak as he was booked for dissent against Gent. He is still only 20 years old, but his conduct on the pitch must improve.
