Three things we learnt from Southampton’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham

Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang are back to their best as a CM duo

The defeat at Manchester City was certainly one to forget from the perspective Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang, and the entire West Ham United squad, but both managed to vanquish any memories of the 4-0 loss with two standout performances. Noble was sharp, alert and made some brilliant passes over the 90 minutes to ensure the flow of possession. His free-kick goal, albeit a deflection, was the icing on the cake of a well-rounded performance. Likewise, Obiang took the game by the scruff of the neck and thrust himself into anything and everything. A goal and an assist for the young Spaniard – a terrific through ball to Carroll for the opener followed by a stunning 25-yard strike – was highly deserved. The pair will be crucial to the Hammers throughout the season, with their form often reflecting upon the whole team.
