Three things we learnt from Liverpool’s shock 2-0 defeat to Burnley

1) Taking your chances counts

When you look at the stats and see three shots compared to 26, you can only imagine total domination and a rout for the side with more shots. That wasn’t the case, and Burnley’s conversion rate of 67% was impressive for any Premier League side.

For Liverpool, this is nothing new. Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho are not out and out strikers, whilst they are superb players, skilful and capable of creating something out of nothing, their fortes are not finishing. More concerningly, Daniel Sturridge failed to add that clinical edge, although there’ll be more on that later.

Take a look at the Burnely front line and you see Sam Vokes, who so vitally gave the Clarets an early lead in the opening minute, and Andre Gray, who was clinical to take his chance to put the tie to bed before half time.
