Three things we learnt from Leicester’s stalemate with Arsenal
Last season Arsenal inflicted two of Leicester’s three defeats as they strode to the title and were in fact the only side to claim victory at the King Power, with a 5-2 victory in September 2015. Once again, the Gooners travelled to Leicester early in the season, but this time neither side could muster enough to score even one goal, let alone seven.
In a dull encounter, neither side looked particularly threatening, with both seemingly content with a point. Whilst Leicester did look to counter attack, Arsenal were happy to retain possession and protect their clean sheet.
Two big refereeing decisions went in Arsenal’s favour and ensured that the Foxes hard to work hard to convert, which they failed to do so. Concerningly, the reigning champions also saw the exciting Ahmed Musa substituted due to injury, and will be hoping for a quick return for their summer addition.
With a game between last season’s top two bound to have some impact on the final table of this season, neither side could quite find the breakthrough, nor were they brave enough to push for a winner in the dying moments.
