Three things we learnt from Leicester’s 3-1 win against Liverpool
Leicester, sitting in the bottom three before kick-off, began life without Claudio Ranieri against Liverpool on Monday night. The Foxes had been under scrutiny all week after the decision to sack Ranieri, with the for forcing the Italian out and failing to work hard for him, while the about whether they gave their former boss enough time to turn results around.
However, the Foxes came out with a point to prove and won the game 3-1, stunning Liverpool with a classic Jamie Vardy goal and a fantastic strike from Danny Drinkwater in the first half.
After the break, Leicester came out the blocks faster again. They broke down the left with Riyad Mahrez and Christian Fuchs combining before the Austrian swung in a right-footed that found Jamie Vardy’s head to make it 3-0. A Philippe Coutinho goal gave Liverpool hope, but the Reds left it too late to mount a comeback.
Here are three things that were learnt as managerless Leicester beat Liverpool 3-1…
The Champions spirit is still there
Leicester City had not scored a Premier League goal in 2017 before this Liverpool tie and the Foxes carried the worst form in the league over the last five games. Claudio Ranieri lost his job due to this barren run of results, and the decision caused a lot of controversy after his heroics last season.
However, when the Foxes faced Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, they seemed passionate and ready to fight for the shirt. Having started the day in the relegation zone, claiming the three points was vital to the club and the players on show made sure they won the battle.
Craig Shakespeare’s men were first to every loose ball, winning every tackle and shouting at each other, forcing each other to work hard. They showed the work ethic that won them the title last season and the question remains; where has this passion been all season?
Shakespeare will certainly be hoping the Foxes can build off this moving forward.
