Three things we learnt from Chelsea’s humiliation of Manchester United
In what will go down as one of Chelsea’s greatest performances and results of perhaps even the Abramovich era, Antonio Conte saw his side dismantle his predecessor, Jose Mourinho, with ease.
Pedro’s early strike for the Blues set the tone for the afternoon as a calamity of errors gave way to allow the Spaniard to open the scoring, with Gary Cahill added a second from some poor defending at a corner before half-time.
In the second half, United grew into the game more, but still struggled defensively. Eden Hazard cut the defence open to make it three before the most unlikely goal scorer of all, N’Golo Kante, strolled straight through the middle of the park to poke home past David de Gea.
Jose Mourinho has had a rough few weeks in the United dugout of late, but this capitulation will surely be the worst of them all. That said, not only three points off the top four already, they now face a Manchester Derby in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night against a Pep Guardiola team with a point to prove of their own.
