Three things we learnt from Chelsea’s 3-0 thumping of Leicester City
Antonio Conte’s side had a point to prove on Saturday lunchtime as speculation mounted that their manager’s position could be under threat after some bookmakers suspended betting on him being the next Premier League boss to be out of work. That’s unlikely to be the case for much longer after the Blues turned up and produced what was their best performance of the season to date as they saw off Leicester City with ease.
Up against their former hero N’Golo Kante, the Foxes struggled and conceded early on when Diego Costa poked home from a corner, only for Eden Hazard to round Kasper Schmeichel to put the game out of sight by half time. Victor Moses went on to add a third on a truly torrid afternoon for Claudio Ranieri as he visited his former employers.
Kante was booed by some sections of the Leicester support despite his remarkable performances at the King Power Stadium as they romped to the league title last season, but his decision to move to London was vindicated as Chelsea made it look easy to see off their Champions League opposition.
Playing in Conte’s preferred system with three central defenders, as against Hull City before the international break, the Blues excelled and showed exactly what they are capable of this campaign.
