Three things we learnt from Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Burnley

Chelsea dropped points against Burnley, but they managed to extend their lead at the top to ten points. It was always going to be a difficult proposition to beat Burnley, given their impressive home record and they won’t be too disappointed with a point. The home side worked hard and fashioned several good chances, giving as good as they got for long periods. Although it will be seen as two points dropped for the league leaders, they are still on track to lift the Premier League in May. Here are three things that we learnt.

Chelsea remain hot favourites for the Premier League title

Tottenham had been seen as the main challengers to Chelsea, but they suffered a defeat this weekend and it is now Manchester City that have to step up and push the Blues for the league trophy. Although Pep Guardiola’s side have been improving in recent weeks, they are far away from being a genuine challenger for the league title. The chasing pack continues to drop points and it is difficult to see any of them making up the ground on Chelsea. Antonio Conte will be disappointed at dropping points today, but given Burnley’s record at Turf Moor, it wasn’t the worst result and they can continue building momentum over the coming weeks.

Their next five league matches are against Swansea City, West Ham, Watford, Stoke City and Crystal Palace. They could take maximum points from those five matches and if they manage to so, they would likely increase their lead and put themselves in an impenetrable position. It has been a remarkable run of results for the Blues, highlighting the managerial quality of Antonio Conte. His 3-4-3 formation continues to be a success and the cornerstone of the club’s brilliant form.
