Three things we learnt from Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at PSG

PSG could be a contender… If they’re clinical

At times, in the first half especially, PSG looked as though they could finally live up to their tag as annual Champions League contenders. With Europa League and cup competition expert Unai Emery appointed from Sevilla in the summer, the Parisian club finally looked like they may be able to live up to the hype as they created chance after chance.

However, the problem lied in that their forwards; namely Edinson Cavani, just couldn’t finish the Gunners off. The Uruguayan had three goal-scoring opportunities which he would usually be expected to take, but only managed to get on the scoresheet once.

Despite a wealth of attacking options, with the likes of Jese and Lucas Moura not even in the starting eleven, PSG are missing a forward who can snap up and convert these chances, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic did before, if they are to really pose a challenge for the Champions League crown.

Arsenal have problems of their own up-front too though, with summer signing Lucas Pérez failing to even make it off the bench as Olivier Giroud was sent off despite only playing for a little over 20 minutes. With Alexis Sanchez again looking uncomfortable in a central role, questions will be asked about the signing of Pérez and Wenger’s recruitment policy if things continue as they have so far this season.
