Three things we learnt from Arenal’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Sutton United
Roarie Deacon won’t be short of offers during the summer
Every time that a non-league side goes on an FA Cup run, there are a few players that earn themselves a move up the divisions. The star of Sutton’s FA Cup journey has been Roarie Deacon and he was excellent once again this evening. He held his own against a strong Arsenal midfield and a number of Football League clubs will have taken notice. Although this was only a small sample, he looked like he could be ready to make the step up to the professional game once again. The quality outside of the Football League is increasing and Deacon is one example of the many good players that operate outside of the top four divisions.
If Sutton were going to do anything in this game, it would have come through Deacon. He was a talismanic figure for the non-league side and he came closest to finding a way past David Ospina. The 25-year-old picked up the ball outside the area and was given space to fire a shot in. He took his opportunity and thundered the ball against the crossbar. It would have been the perfect way to cap off a great performance against one of the best sides in the country, but it wasn’t to be. This won’t be the last time we hear about Roarie Deacon.
