Three things learnt from Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback victory over Stoke
Stoke need to work on their finishing
On another day, Stoke could feasibly have been out of sight by half-time. Xherdan Shaqiri had an effort ruled out for offside, Marko Arnautovic saw a good chance go begging and Simon Mignolet made a couple of wonder saves before Jonathan Walters headed in just before half-time.
Whilst there will clearly be concerns about their second half capitulation, Stoke could have had the game won before they even returned to the changing rooms. With such a lack of clinical finishing, it was clear that the quality in Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino’s strikes were what made the difference.
Comfortably in the bottom half of the Premier League, the Potters have not looked threatened by relegation but find themselves below Leicester and level on points with West Ham, two sides who certainly have been involved in the fight at the bottom. Sadio Berahino continued to disappoint, and Mark Hughes will know that he can take nothing for granted going into next season.
