Three things learnt as Manchester United saw off spirited Blackburn in the FA Cup

United’s world-class duo prove the difference

The last thing Jose Mourinho would have wanted was another match to play in an already congested fixture list, but with fifteen minutes left at Ewood Park it looked like a replay would be the outcome for both sides.

Fortunately for the United manager he had two world-class players on his bench to call upon; and it’s no surprise that these two combined to send the Reds into the quarter-finals.

Paul Pogba’s vision to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic in space, and the pinpoint execution to find him with an aerial ball was sublime, whilst the Swede’s finish was composed and accurate in to the corner.

Question marks have been over Pogba’s head in particular since his £89 million record summer move to Old Trafford, but it’s moments like these where he proves he’s worth every penny of the large sum that Manchester United paid for him.

Not only did the duo combine superbly for United’s eventual winner, but all five of Pogba’s assists this season (across all competitions) have been for the 35-year-old Swedish forwar – the summer arrivals seem to be creating a priceless chemistry whenever they’re on the field together.
