Three things learnt as Manchester United reignited the title race with a 2-0 win over Chelsea
With just six games left to be played inꦿ the Premier League season, it was clear that the result of this tie could be decisive in a variety of ways. When the two sides came face to face at Old Trafford on Sunday, Jose Mourinho was out for revenge fully aware that three points were vital for their top four push. He got them.
It may have been in controversial circumstances as Ander Herrera🐻 appeared to handle before playing in Maꦰrcus Rashford with one of the best assists of the season, but the young striker finished well to give the home side the lead.
Chelsea were depleted, without two of their key men in Thibaut Courtois and Marcos Alonso, but they failed to put up much of a fight, registering not even a single shot on target for the f💝irst time since September 2007.
After half-time, Herrera added a second as his powerful shot rifled past Asmir Begovic thanks to a deflection off Kurt Zouma, with that goal all but putting an end to Chelsea’s hopes of a comeback as United saw out the gam𓂃ไe comfortably.
That leaves Chelsea with just a four-point lead over Tottenham in second with six games to play and could open the door to a late challenge from the side from north London, but the woeful manner ofꦛ their defeat could be the real concern for Blues fans.
