Three players West Ham should sign on deadline day
West Ham have had a disastrous start to the season which has left them bottom of the Premier League with no points from three games, with ten goals conceded and only two scored. With pressure mounting on Slaven Bilic, they must turn things around quickly.
Here are three players who Slaven Bilic could try to bring in on deadline day to help save his job at the London Stadium:
William Carvalho
At one point in the transfer window, it had looked as though West Ham were set to smash their transfer record to sign the Portugal international. The claim that there is still a faint chance of that happening, but with the two clubs yet to agree a fee it looks unlikely.
Carvalho would add real quality to the Hammers’ midfield which has been found wanting in the opening weeks of the season. Youngster Declan Rice has impressed, but he’s nowhere near the same level as Carvalho.
Andre Gomes
It came as a major surprise to see the Irons linked with a player of Gomes’ stature, but believe that a deal could be possible on the final day of the window. Gomes was signed by Barcelona last summer but had a disappointing debut season at the Camp Nou.
A creative midfielder with an eye for goal, Gomes would add a different dimension to the West Ham midfield and could compete with Manuel Lanzini in a more advanced role. Signing a player like Gomes from one of the world’s biggest clubs would be a huge statement from the board.
Abdul Majeed Waris
A late and little known name, say that West Ham are in talks with French second division side FC Lorient over the 25-year-old. The Ghana international scored 11 goals in 40 games last season as the team were relegated from the French top flight.
Waris is a good finisher who can cut in from wide positions and would be a versatile addition given that he can play as a centre forward or on either wing. That could aid Slaven Bilic as his side look for goals.
