Three signings Stoke City could make on deadline day
For per♍iods of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign, Mark Hughes’ Stoke City side looked a solid bet for European contenders, with sensational home victories over Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, along with a run to ဣthe semi-finals of the League Cup, where their Wembley hopes were dashed by Liverpool following a penalty shootout at Anfield. From a promising position however, Hughes’ Potters faded and faltered in the latter stages of the season, with a mere two wins from their final ten matches and five defeats.
After a promising campaign ended in little more than a whimper at what was then known as the Britannia Stadium, renamed the Bet365 from this season, Potters fans and neutrals alike expected Mark Hughes to be active in the transfer market this summer in order to breathe new life and freshness into a Stoke team that started so well but faltered. However, bar the £6million signing of winger Ramadan Sobhi from E🐟gyptian club Al-Ahly, and their marquee signing of the summer in the shape of Liverpool’s Joe Allen, who fresh from an impressive Euro 2016 campaign with Wales signed for the Potters for a fee of £13million, the additions expected at the Potteries club simply haven’t arrived, and thus far this campaign it has proven costly.
With Jack Butland and Xherdan Shaqiri having spent time on the sidelines with injury already this campa𝓡ign, the Potters have picked up a solitary point from their opening three Premier League games, which included a brutal 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, a side which they beat at home last s🐠eason, and sit rock bottom of the Premier League.
The pressure has since increased for Mark Hughes to add to his out of form and depleted side, but with only one day remaining before his opportunity to add reinforcements goes begging, which sign꧒ings may still come through the door at the Bet365 Stadium before the 11pm cut-of🥃f point?
