Three signings Gerrard should target for Rangers to help topple Celtic

Steven Gerrard has hit the ground running in his management career with Rangers, enjoying an unbeaten start to life in Scotland.

A huge upturn in form under the guidance of the Liverpool legend has led to increased optimism for the campaign ahead and plenty of belief that Rangers could topple Celtic at the top of the pile, following an unconvincing start for the defending champions.

Gerrard has made 12 new signings already this summer but is seeking further deals before the transfer deadline slams shut on Friday and we have identified three reported targets who could provide his side with a huge boost.

Joe Worrall (Nottingham Forest)

Rangers’ defensive frailties were shown once again by the 3-3 draw with Kilmarnock on Sunday and Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall has been identified as the ideal candidate to bolster the ranks at the heart of the defence.

Interest in the 23-year-old was first reported last week and now states Gerrard will pull out all the stops to bring the defender to Ibrox, although Forest are said to be unsure on whether a move to Scotland is right for his development.

With the potential of Europa League football on the table, Worrall would certainly benefit from an extended stint in Scotland and Rangers should do all they can to secure a deal.

Jordan Jones (Kilmarnock)

Rangers have plenty of strength in attack but it seems that Gerrard wants to increase his options further, as reports have suggested a move for Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones is being considered – but there could be a huge fight for his services.

suggests a fierce battle between the Old Firm rivals could occur in the final days of the transfer window as Celtic have joined Rangers in the hunt for Jones, potentially leading to a very dramatic conclusion to the summer.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder reportedly turned down Rangers in January but could be tempted by a move to Glasgow this week.

Nathan Dyer (Swansea City)

, in an article since deleted, attributed Rangers with an interest in the Swansea City outcast but a move seems unlikely as Gerrard addressed the rumours over the weekend, quoted by as having no interest in a deal.

However, injury to Jamie Murphy could leave Gerrard in the market for a new attacking recruit before the window slams shut at the end of the week and experienced 30-year-old Dyer could be the ideal addition to his squad.

Accumulating 249 league appearances for Swansea, Dyer is now surplus to requirements in South Wales and a loan to Rangers could be ideal for all parties.
