Three signings Manchester City should still make feat. Euro 2016 stars

With the transfer window closing in just over a month’s time, many clubs will start to intensify their search for players to improve their squad.

Manchester City are no different, and having only bought in a few players including Nolito and Gundogan so far, they will surely be close to bringing in a few more significant signings.

Over the next few pages, here are three players Pep Guardiola could possibly bring in to improve the Manchester City squad and improve their chances of winning the league, excluding the seemingly inevitable addition of John Stones to their ranks.

Leonardo Bonucci – Juventus

The 29-year-old Juventus centre-back had a wonderful Euro 2016, gaining many plaudits and earning respect across Europe. In truth, the Italian was already a popular figure among many of the leading managers in world football, and there have been rumours linking Pep Guardiola with a move for Bonucci going right the way back to March.

Bonucci could become the leading figure in a defence lacking Vincent Kompany, while the Belgian is out injured. However, the thought of a back-four containing Kompany and Bonucci commanding the line makes a terrifying thought for the opposition strike-force. It would seem that Kompany would finally have a defender alongside him who would be playing at the same level, despite the fact that Otamendi has enjoyed a fairly decent start to life in England.

While Bonucci may cost a significant fee, Man City are one of the clubs who are able to afford the prices of the world’s best players, and Juventus have demonstrated in recent times they are prepared to listen to offers. It could suggest the end for Eliaquim Mangala, but City would have a defence that could contain the best in Europe, propelling them into a promising Champions League team.

At 29 years of age, Bonucci probably has one last opportunity to play for another major club in Europe and Man City could be the team to join. A physical and demanding league could be perfect for the Italian centre-back.
