Three possible replacements for Joel Matip should he make Liverpool exit
Liverpool defender Joel Matip has been linked with a move away from the club recently, with Fulham seemingly in pole position.
The Cameroonian defender arrived at Anfield in July 2016 upon the expiration of his deal at Schalke, having initially signed a pre-contract agreement in February that year.

Matip has never really nailed down a starting role with Liverpool, and he has become somewhat renowned for being capable of a clumsy mistake when he plays.
Whatever the Reds sell him for, they will make profit, having signed the 27-year-old on a free two years ago.
Here are three defenders Liverpool could replace Matip with.
Matthijs De Ligt
Ajax defender De Ligt is widely tipped to become one of the world’s greatest, and he has already been linked with a move to many of Europe’s elite clubs.

Teammate of Virgil Van Dijk at international level, the Holland starlet would command a major fee of £60million plus.
Despite his hefty fee, he could become an elite tier defender, and be a regular in Liverpool’s side for the next ten years.
Kalidou Koulibaly
Napoli’s Koulibaly is a bona fide star and would walk into most of the world’s greatest teams.

Despite being linked with a move to Manchester United for a ginormous fee of £80million, he’s still fair game in the transfer market and at 27-years-old, his next move will be his biggest as he hunts for career accolades.
Harry Maguire
The star of England’s World Cup campaign, 25-year-old Maguire has recently signed a new contract and again would command a huge transfer fee.

Nonetheless, he is capable of walking into Liverpool’s starting team, and would provide healthy competition to help contribute to the steady growth of Joe Gomez.
