Three players Southampton should target during the January transfer window

Southampton may have the third best defence in the league, having conceded just 16 goals all campaign, but the attention on Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk could prompt them to act early in their quest for possible replacements.
Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer could prove to be an achievable target for the Saints. The Austrian is fourth choice centre back at Spurs, and has only got a look in this season thanks to injuries to ex-Southampton loanee Toby Alderweireld.
Still, Wimmer is held in high regard by several Bundesliga teams, and performed well in matches against Arsenal and Chelsea this season, despite scoring an own goal against Arsenal.
Spurs may wait until the summer to sell Wimmer but he would add good depth to the squad if they could get him in January. He may not be on the same level as van Dijk, but he could be a strong long term replacement for Fonte when the Portuguese decides to move on.
