Three players who Newcastle United should go all out to sign this summer

Newcastle United ended the 2017/18 campaign on a high and their 10th placed finish represented a solid first season back in the Premier League, with lots of the credit lauded on boss Rafael Benitez who worked wonders with the hand he was dealt.

Given that their owner is Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley, signing players hasn’t always come easy for the Spanish boss at St. James’ Park but the job he did last season was decent to say the very least and the fans were satisfied with the campaign.

The Toon Army will be hoping to consolidate their status as an establish Premier League club during 2018/19 and is safe to say that boss Benitez would love to add a couple more players to his squad ahead of the big kick-off on Saturday week.

The Boot Room looks at three players Newcastle United should go all out to sign between now and the transfer window closing in just over a week’s time…

Nicolás Tagliafico – Ajax

According to a report from the Ajax defender is high on the list of targets handed to the board of directors by Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez and a deal could be on the horizon.

The 25-year-old left-back is highly-rated by Benitez and he is clearly keen to add some cover in defence to his squad, given that he is somewhat light in that area of the pitch.

Tagliafico only signed for the Dutch giants back in January, however, and it could take as much as £8 million to secure the Argentinean’s services.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – Chelsea
The Chelsea midfielder is currently on an extended break after being part of the 23-man England squad that reached the semi-final of the World Cup in Russia this summer.
With Maurizio Sarri now in charge of first-team affairs at Stamford Bridge it remains to be seen whether or not he has a future at the club for the immediate future, or whether he will go out on loan once again.
If the Magpies can pull off a major coup and sign the 22-year-old this summer, there is every possibility that Newcastle could challenge for one of the European places next season.
Salomon Rondon – West Brom
The have been quite active this summer in reporting Newcastle’s interest in West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon who could be involved in a swap deal with Dwight Gayle.
Rondon is a decent striker at Premier League level and netted seven goals last season, despite the Baggies’ relegation from the top division and interest is thought to be high in the Venezuelan.
If the Magpies can include Gayle as bait in the deal for the target man it would certainly save them some money and hand them a striker who is better equipped to score goals in the Premier League.
