Three youngsters who could make an impression on the Manchester United first team in 2017/18
For all the millions that are being spent in the transfer window, including by Jose Mourinho, each club has several young players to keep an eye out for.
The tail end of the 2016/17 season saw many of those at Manchester United given a chance in the Premier League as key players were rested with the Europa League the priority.
This season, many of those will be hoping to push on and establish themselves as strong options in the first team squad.
At Old Trafford, The Boot Room believe that it could be a key campaign for the three following players…
Timothy Fosu-Mensah
Hailed by some as an option in holding midfield if the club can’t sign their top targets, this season will be key in Fosu-Mensah’s development after increasing his presence in each of the past few seasons, accumulating 21 appearances for the Red Devils over the past two seasons.
His versatility will appeal to Jose Mourinho, especially as an option from the bench. Now aged 19, he will be hoping to earn a regular run of games at some point this season.
Axel Tuanzebe
Earning his first start against Arsenal under Mourinho last season, Tuanzebe could feature again this season. With no full-backs having joined the squad, he can hope for minutes when Antonio Valencia is rested and may also fill in at his preferred position of centre-back.
After a strong end to the season, also winning the club’s reserve team player of the year award, he will hope to take the next step and turn his taste of first team football into something more regular in 2017/18.
Andreas Pereira
The 21-year-old spent last season out on loan at Granada in La Liga, impressing even as his side were relegated. He insists that he will not be going out on loan again this campaign, and it could be crucial if there is any chance of the Brazilian establishing himself in Manchester.
Having been on the fringes of the side for several years, with 13 appearances for the Red Devils, the experience from his loan in Spain could help to make him a more regular feature for Mourinho. If the club do fail to sign a holding midfielder, Pereira could be one of those to benefit.
