ꦯIt’s been a hugely successful summer for Everton, having almost completely regenerated their side in order to close the gap between them and the top six. The Toffees have brought in some star names including Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, along with a few impressive purchases in the form of Michael Keane from Burnley and Sandro Ramirez from Malaga.
🐽The signing of their summer, however, is Wayne Rooney. The Englishman returned to his boyhood club after a hugely successful spell at Manchester United and he has provided Ronald Koeman’s side with experience and a winner’s mentality.
🎀Yet, there are still a few additions that would further strengthen the Dutchman’s team. Here are three players Everton need to sign this deadline day.
Diego Costa
ജHaving been exiled from Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side, many would’ve predicted that it wouldn’t take long before Costa was snapped up by another top club.
🦩However, the Spanish striker is yet to make a move, and Everton are one of the teams to be linked to his name, with Koeman welcoming the Chelsea outcast to the club, as reported by . The Toffees may not seem like the ideal candidates for Costa, yet it makes plenty of sense for the former Atletico Madrid man to move to Merseyside.
🌃Koeman would provide the Spaniard with game time and this would come in a league Costa knows well. Furthermore, playing regularly for Everton could lead to a return to Atletico Madrid, if the Spaniard was to impress for the Toffees, of course.
Jamie Vardy
♔Perhaps a player that is needed more than the aforementioned Costa, Jamie Vardy would provide Everton with something they currently have very little of, pace.
♔Against Chelsea, Koeman’s side were trying to counter attack with Rooney, Sigurdsson and Sandro leading the line, which is hard to do considering those individuals don’t possess impressive speed.
🔯Vardy, on the other hand, does, and he could be the perfect fit in Everton’s side. With the creative Rooney and Sigurdsson behind him, he would have plenty of service and his poacher’s instinct would ensure that he would make the most of their creativity.
🔜It’s a feasible transfer also, with the reporting recently that Everton were set to hijack Chelsea’s £40 million bid for the England international.
Thomas Vermaelen
🏅Reports from the suggest that this move is very likely. The outlet have revealed that Everton have made an offer for the Belgian defender to take him on a season-long loan, with a view to buy.
ﷺIt’s a bid that makes a lot of sense too, with Everton slightly lacking in terms of depth at centre-back. Vermaelen would bring further experience to Koeman’s backline and, if needed, the former Arsenal man could fill in at left-back if Leighton Baines was to get injured.
