Three Manchester United youngsters who could establish themselves this season

Jose Mourinho gets a bit of a hard time when it comes to his youth development.

However, after giving Marcus Rashford the most game time of any Manchester United player last season, things seem to be changing.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah provided a voice of disagreement to criticisms, suggesting that the Portuguese manager does give young players a chance and they have to take their opportunity.

Speaking to , the Dutchman said: “Marcus played the most games last season so I think what they say about him is not true. He gives youth a chance, I think as a young player you have to grab the chance with both hands.”

So, after the comments from Fosu-Mensah, which youngsters are most likely to get an opportunity to impress next season?

Marcus Rashford

Although he was a key player for the Red Devils last season, it is expected that Marcus Rashford will form an even more integral part of Jose Mourinho’s plans in the upcoming campaign.

The 19-year-old, who broke through the ranks under Louis Van Gaal, only scored five Premier League goals last term, undergoing a huge drought from September to April.

Yet, Mourinho expected this, saying, as reported by the : “He’s just a kid that’s enjoying his football. The second season was always going to be a difficult one, but I think the third season is going to be the good one again.”

So, as his manager predicts, Rashford’s third season is set to be special. United fans will have to hope that the Portuguese head coach is correct.

Andreas Pereira

A player that should really be part of the first team already is Andreas Pereira, who spent last season on loan with Granada.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder is a talented prospect, but he has never been given a chance to impress at United.

Yet, after impressing in Spain, where he scored five goals in 37 appearances, he may just enter the first team picture.

The Brazilian is keen to avoid another loan spell, telling : “I am here and I want to stay here and I believe I am going to stay.”

Having stated his desires to impress under Mourinho, he passes the baton to his manager. It now remains to be seen whether or not he’ll be given the chance.

Nonetheless, judging on his performances in La Liga, he will certainly show his talents if he is given the opportunity to do so.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Like Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah broke through under Van Gaal. However, unlike his teammate, he has not continued his progression.

The Dutchman was limited to just four Premier League appearances last season, with more senior players getting substitute appearances.

A versatile talent, Fosu-Mensah can play a variety of positions, something which will come to his advantage if injuries take their toll on United’s like they did last term.

However, if Mourinho gives him a chance in midfield, the Red Devils boss may just find the former Ajax man is the perfect player to partner Paul Pogba.

Fosu-Mensah is not only able to distribute the ball, he also has a tremendous work-rate and has shown great ability when it comes to breaking down opposition attacks.
