Three key statistics ahead of Manchester United vs Middlesbrough

Manchester United have hit a bit of a run of form in recent weeks, winning their last four Premier League games to keep them in touch with the Premier League’s top four. Going into the final game of the year, they will be hoping to extend that run to five and keep up the pressure.

Middlesbrough go into the game at Old Trafford on the back of a defeat at Burnley, but safe in the knowledge that they have already picked up impressive points on the road against Arsenal and Manchester City. Another point or three in Manchester would do wonders for their survival bid.

Here are three key stats ahead of the game.

0 – United thrive in late December

Manchester United, for all of their problems in recent years, have been pretty solid in defence under the likes of Mourinho, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes.

This good defensive record is particularly prevalent in the last game of the year. United haven’t conceded in the final game of a calendar year since 2011, when Blackburn Rovers hit three goals in a surprise 3-2 win on New Year’s Eve 2011.

But with one of the division’s weakest attacks coming to Old Trafford, the Red Devils will be hopeful of extending that run to a fifth straight season.
