Fulham’s missed chance to draw level – 47 minutes
After surviving half an hour without conceding a second, but also offering little going forward, Fulham had their best chance of the match just before the break.
Left-back Scott Malone surged up the flank and provided a cross comparable in quality to that of Eriksen’s earlier assist. However, team-mate Floyd Ayite failed to provide the crucial touch as the ball eluded him near the penalty spot.
Sone Aluko was able to keep the attack alive but his tame curled effort was straight at Michel Vorm and saw the period come to an end. Had Ayite made decent contact, his side would almost certainly have been level at the break and the tie’s complexion would have dramatically changed.
