Three key fixtures that could define Southampton’s season between now and the New Year
Liverpool (H) Saturday 19th November
The very next fixture for Saints fans, is certainly one that promises much. Klopp’s men head to Hampshire top of the league and in scintillating form, having not lost in the league since August 20th against Burnley. Since then they have beaten Champions Leicester, Chelsea, Spurs (in the EFL Cup) and before the aforementioned loss at Turf Moor, they defeated Arsenal. After their most recent game (a 6-1 thrashing of Watford) many onlookers suddenly sat up and took notice of the Reds, as they are showing all the signs of Klopp’s high tempo football, but with fundamentally less errors against “smaller” teams – most adequately conveyed in the 2-1 win over West Brom and the 2-4 victory at Crystal Palace. Claude Puel’s men will be in for a tough afternoon, but if they could produce a dazzling performance of their own, and earn a point (or even whisper it – a win) they would be well on their way to set about a precedence for a real top six challenge.
