‘Those three’…Ian Wright names the three Manchester United players who just haven’t worked for Erik ten Hag

Manchester United lost again this weekend as Man City rolled them over and Ian Wright has questioned the club in general under Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag is under pressure as we hurtle towards the spring and summer, with Jim Ratcliffe overseeing things on the footballing side now.

Ten Hag’s position is one of the many elements of the club Ratcliffe and his team are looking at. Another one of those elements will be new signings, and how those new signings are identified.

United have spent money for the Dutchman but signings have been hit and miss. And speaking on the , former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has said the signings of Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat and Antony have all been effectively pointless and useless.

“You have to then look at is this the manager who can take them to the next level. You have to looking at that because you’re looking at it now, I still don’t know what their main structure of play is. You know you can’t buy players like Antony, it doesn’t work, Amrabat doesn’t work, why did you buy Mason Mount? So you’re looking at players they’ve bought and just those three you’re thinking ‘who is making those decisions?’. Those things don’t happen at City, course they don’t. City have an unbelievable management team and for me at United, it will have to come to the manager,” Wright .

Manchester United need to make better signings

It almost feels like people have said this on repeat since Alex Ferguson left but once again, we are looking at a massive summer for Man United.

They have made some decent looking signings in Lisandro Martinez and Rasmus Hojlund. But as Wright highlights here, others have been woeful and contributed nothing to the cause.

A club the size of Manchester United should be getting it’s recruitment right. They have the money in place to get the right infrastructure in place and it’s easy to see why their fans have got annoyed in recent years.

Whether Ten Hag is in charge to oversee another overhaul remains to be seen. But United need to do better, and they need to do better quickly.
